Grandparents and the Zoo

Yesterday morning the girls and I drove to Memphis and picked up Mark's parents from the airport and then we head to the zoo for a day of fun. The girls were so excited- they were awake at about 6am, ready to go!We had a little trouble getting to each place... I took a wrong turn getting into the airport and then our Google directions from the airport to the zoo left off the last two turns. But once we finally arrived at the zoo we had tons of fun! Heidi meet us there with Nicki and Taylor and we set out to see animals.
We saw elephants, lions, tigers, zebra, panda bears even got to go into a butterfly exhibit where the beautiful butterflies were flying all around us. The only downside was that it was so HOT out and very humid, but we were having fun so we just sweat and drank as much water as we could. Then after we were inside watching the polar bears and before we made it to the meercats, a storm blew in. A big storm with lots of rain, lots and lots! We thought we could wait it out but we didn't have the patience and after sticking it out for awhile we finally gave in and ran to the van. We were soaked! The girls were so wet I just stripped them down as we jumped in. They thought that was really funny.
It was okay though we got to see lots of animals and we have a zoo pass now so we can go back when ever we want and we had grandparents to bring home for lots more fun times!

8 years

Yesterday was our 8th wedding anniversary and we got to go to The Melting Pot for dinner. The restaurant is in Memphis so when Mark got off work Heidi came over to watch the kids and we dressed up and headed out. We got to Memphis early so we walked around a store called World Market. It was a fun store with all kinds of stuff from all over- we spent most of the time in the candy and food isles.

Then at 6:00 (we had reservations, I know, fancy!) we headed to The Melting Pot. We had never been there before so we were very excited. We did the whole 4 course meal- cheese, salad, meat and dessert. It was excellent! And it is such a fun experience. They make the cheese right at the table and you cook your own meat in the fondue broth. Our burner worked fine for the cheese part but when they brought the broth for the meat we waited and waited for it to boil. Apparently the burner had went out, they are electric burners, so they had to switch it and put in a new one. It took all of 3 minutes and didn't bother us at all but the manager felt really bad and so gave us our dessert free, SCORE! The waitress felt bad too and so had them bring us extra dessert for dipping- including an extra piece of cheesecake! It was soooo good! We left fat and happy! Thank you Heidi and Mom and Dad!
We had a wonderful time!

Bonfires, Smores and Feeding Fish

I'm slow getting the post up but I can't miss the chance to tell about our big Saturday night event. Our friends, Jamie and Marcie, live way out in the country and they invited out for a bonfire. We excitedly packed up for the big event and headed to Friendship! Our twin family came too so all three girls had a best buddy to play with. The two oldest were ready for adventure, the middle two were afraid of the dogs and the little two roamed the land together like they owned it!
We got there and headed down to their pond- where the girls got to fish and feed the fish. It was really fun, the kids could throw the pellets in and then we could see the fish jump up to get the food.
Up the hill by the house they have a great tree swing. Even the adults took turns, and let me tell you both mommas present squealed a little during their turn! It went high!
Then they started up the bonfire and roasting marshmallows for smores. Our girl had never got a chance to do marshmallows over a real fire before so it was very exciting. Sahara quickly caught hers on fire while Bria commented that her marshmallow was not marshing! One of the dogs kept taking Tirza's graham crackers from her, luckily she isn't scared of dogs ,like Bria is, but after the third time she was starting to get a little irritated!
The girls roamed around all their open space and the adults sat around the fire and talked and relaxed. It was also a great weather day- not to hot, no humidity- a perfect evening to spend outside.
My blogging does not do the evening justice- thank you friends for such a fun relaxing evening!

Brave

Today was shot day for Sahara and Bria, and they did SO good! We dropped Tirza off with friends and then headed to the doctor's office, we waited got moved to a room and waited some more. All this time the girls were just chatting and reading books. Happy, even though they knew we were there for shots. So the nurse comes in and Sahara is up first, she had one shot. She climbs up sit on the table, gets her shot, jumps down AND like the wonderful big sister she is tells Bria that it didn't really hurt and that it will be fine. Bria jumps up on the table for her FIVE, yes I said 5 shots! The nurse lays her down and gives the first one.
Bria says, "That didn't even hurt."
Second shot, Bria says, "That one felt warm."
Third shot, "Am I doing good Mommy?"
"Yes, Bria you are doing great!"
Fourth shot, "I didn't like that one!"
Fifth and final, "Can I be all done now?"
Mommy and the nurse say "YES!"
Can you believe how brave my big girls are? On the way out Bria told me, "Mommy, I cried a little in my head." I said baby you could have cried, a lot, out loud and you still would have been brave.
And off we went with suckers and stickers, again happy as can be...

Now I should explain that I hate shots- really hate them. I can remember being around15 years old and my dad holding me down to get a shot- really holding me from running away! Every time I take the girls for shots I remind myself over and over that the shot is much better than getting the disease that it prevents. So Sahara and Bria are my little heroes today, I am so proud of how brave and sweet they were- so proud that we went and got new Lil'Kins as a prize... pictures of the new friends will be posted tomarrow.
